Regarding the fuel:
With our 150 Montauk with a 2008 Mercury 60 EFI Bigfoot, no problems thus far.
The external tanks are an advantage. I keep an old fuel line with bulb in my shed. When a tank gets low, I use the fuel line to pump the remaining gas in ourTacoma or lawnmower. Old fuel NEVER HANGS AROUND. Both tanks are emptied at the end of the season. No chance of getting old fuel into the engine.
Also, I treat all fuel. I have NO IDEA if it works. (I wish Comsumers Report would do a year or two investigation to determine if ANY fuel treatment actually does a darn thing)
In any event, I think fresh fuel is always better.
If your engine starts easily(follow manual instructions) and runs OK, I wouldn't have concerns. That 60 is smooth and quiet.
