I replaced my 1999 Toyota 4Runner LTD 4x4 with a 2nd gen (2013) Highlander SE AWD 2 years ago.
While I really liked the 4Runner, the Highlander is a
big improvement.
I towed my Outrage 17 up and down some decent mountains in W VA (5% grade for 4 miles). The Highlander had good torque and did really well.
The towing mileage averaged 15 mpg over a 480 mile trip of 1/2 mountains, 1/2 flat roads at 60 mph.
The backup camera is very helpful on hooking up.
I would expect the 2014-> Highlander to be good as well.
