Hello,
New member here. Been reading wc for sometime, finally joined. Hope to contribute what I can going forward

13' Whaler
Been researching the year of my hull since I had originally purchased w\out title and think its a early\mid 1970's

HIN: 2B97xx

The inside is painted white however surrounding the HIN number inside the transom is what looks to be a tan original interior

Any help you can provide to find what year and model would be much appreciated. Also posting links to some pictures for additional references

TIA

Hi Jax,

Welcome to WhalerCentral

From this article, your boat is after 1972
http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...icle_id=61

A full Stencil number would be better like these
http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...cle_id=101
Can you verify your FULL Stencil Number?

However, a 2B97xx Stencil number would make it a 1973 year model which should also have an embedded HIN number on the stern of the boat which I don't see.
See last photo here:

It is possible that you don't have an HIN as this is a transition period.

Something else I see, you have a notched transom which during this time frame was made for the Overseas market.
Do you know where this boat came from?
Other 1973 and later models had the straight transom in the US market.

Let us know a little more.

The only other things I can tell you is what I see in this photo.
Custom 13 model with an aftermarket bow rail an no interior thus making it a Custom model at this time.

Thank you Joe. My full stencil number is 2B9702. I have not found any markings inside the anchor locker or traces of an embossed number remains on stern

Correct about the notched transom. After looking over many pictures of similar models I have not seen this either, Also the splash well inside other transoms are all the way across where mine is not

Actually you have the correct splashwell for that year.

Again, a transition year.

Has this interior ever been painted?

My Fault.

I completely missed the "B" in the Stencil.

This is a much later model.
2B would make it a 1977 year model and would positively have had an HIN plate attached to the outside of the transom.
http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...cle_id=101

And yes, this would have been made for the Overseas market.

I would contact Boston Whaler and give them your Stencil number.
They would then be able to give you a HIN number so you could have a new plate made.
Keep those emails for your records.

Enjoy your 1977 year model if that Stencil number is readable in your splashwell?
Any photos of the Stencil number?

Yes it's been painted over original interior coat. I added another photo of the stencil in the previous link above. That picture shows the tan interior in which the stencil is painted on. The link of the splashwells detail you posted is really great. I have not seen that before.
I read on specialty marine site that the anchor locker wood they sell is 42 5/8" up until 1976. That is the size of my locker. So according to them the size changed in 1977?
Purchased it from someone in Huntington Beach and seller didn't know previous history. Was able to verify with CA dvm before purchase that there were no pending liens
I will email bw tomorrow, that's a good idea. Thanks again Joe

OK.
Let us know what BW tells you so I can fill in the blank numbers in your HIN for this list.
http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...cle_id=101

Then you could have a new HIN plate made and attach it to your hull in the original location.

My reply came back from bw which is pasted below. Great info

Joe, do you have any recommendations where I can get a plate made? Thanks

REPLY FROM BW:
Hello Joe,

According to our records, serial number 2B9702 was assigned a 12 character hull identification number of BWCE1024M77K.
This boat was built in our old Rockland, MA factory as a 13’ Sport model and was originally shipped out to a place called Stan Miller Marine, in Long Beach, CA on 6/29/77 (as a 1977 model).
Attached is a page from the old sales book.

Any trophy shop can make you a plate.

I used to ride my bike down to Stan Miller Marine almost every Sunday for breakfast and look in the window of the Boston Whaler dealer.
It was only about a mile from my house back then.
Bought my first 13' from an employee there back in 1975.
No longer a Boston Whaler dealer however.

Yes, see the 3rd photo in the link I gave you above on HIN plates.
As John mentions, any trophy shop should be able to make one.
