Make sure, if you choose to restore your windshield , that you do a large area and not just spots. By using abrasives, you will be removing enough material to create distortions which may be more distracting than the cracks.

Also, the depth of the cracks may require a more aggressive method than a compound buff. There is a more intensive method using various micro grit sandpaper.

While not a professional restoring Plastics, I have restored many acrylic aquariums. Some while underwater, where the sanding method is required.

The biggest thing either way, is to be patient. Use even pressure while using abrasives. Cover a larger area evenly. Remember, you have to look through it, your not buffing a hull or a headlight.
