Hey folks, I'm looking for a couple of ideas. I have a 1992 Outrage 17 with an inop fuel gauge. Before I start replacing things I'm wondering if anyone has used a fuel measuring stick. I have used one on previous boats I've owned and found them much more reliable. Any ideas? Thanks

It would only work if you can dip it straight into the tank. Since most fuel inlets are situated on center near the front to mid section of the tank while the fill is on the gunwale, the stick would never bend enough nor reach the bottom of the tank to get an accurate reading.

Maybe try a fuel-flow meter?

EDIT: I should have mentioned that you can set the above instrument to show remaining fuel in the tank, not just current fuel flow/usage. When we fill up the tank, we reset the amount of fuel and it just counts down remaining fuel as we use it.

There is no direct access in the tank top for a fuel stick without modification.

Just replace the tank gauge/sender.

E-components.net sells the replacement to the original Rochester gauge/sender. They are well respected by whaler owners.

You can select a direct read or remote sender version.

BTW- I owned a 1991 Outrage 17. The prior owner changed the sender to be a remote gauge on the dashboard. See my personal page and project albums.

We purchased our boat used and the Standard Horizon fuel flow meter was already installed on it at that time. So unfortunately I can't help with price or purchase options. Maybe try Defender?
