Hi guys.
I'm ready to put a deposit down on a used Montauk 170.
But it's clear across the country. Any suggestions on shipping a boat and trailer across Canada?

The Montauk 170 is a popular model. Given you are just north of the Washington State border, I would keep looking in the Washington, Oregon markets.

Shipping a boat across Canada could cost > $2K CD.

Get on a jet and check it out then drive it back yourself. I did: Jacksonville, FL to San Diego, CA. I gave up on trying to find a boat here and found a great deal (on an MT170 too) in FL. You need to see the boat in person to make sure you are getting what you are paying for.

I have been looking in the PNW and all the BW's are very expensive.
Also anything out of the US now costs me an extra +30%
My sister lives in the town that the 170MT is in so I'm getting her to check it out.
Now only if I could get her to drive it across for me ;-)

G2S, I found a shipper via Uship and it worked out well. Some of the factors that will affect cost are:

- do you need it in any particular timeframe, or are you flexible?
- can the boat be towed on it's own trailer, or does it need to be carried on something?
- customs paperwork.

Go visit your sister, she'll love you for it, you can test drive the boat, and drive it home your self, great vacation for such an investment you'll make.
Last summer I was walking on one of the beaches here on Lake Michigan and ran into a couple that asked me if the Lake was always that rough (we had some wind) He said it looks rougher than the ocean by us. I asked him where he was from and why he was here (Michigan)
He told me they drove from Seattle to pick up a Boston Whaler as it was less expensive to get a nice fresh water Whaler here in Michigan than in the PNW. This included him flying out once already to check the boat over B-4 he bought it.
Now he was talking about a two year old Outrage 280 (high dollars) but still make the trip.

Hey Peter. I found my original post about my story and getting my MT170 Boston Whaler. Not super organized but a good story of the process and my thinking...not right or wrong but what I did.

You are correct. She would love it and I'd love to drive it across the country.
I just don't want to drive both directions.
I need for find a way to do a one way rental of a tow vehicle.
