Is there any way to find out how many Katama's were made in a certain year ?

I once emailed Chuck at whaler with the same question but for the Outrage 22. He told me there was no way to know.

I know they have logs, but it is probably tedious to go through and count. The pictures of Chuck with the logs show them as notebooks. The data is not in a database so it's not easy to query.

Hey thanks Mike !
It would be great to know just how many of our favorite boats are really out there ;)

I wrote an email to Chuck Bennett last month (cbennett at whaler.com) in which I asked him about my 1970 Boston Whaler Menemsha 16, Stencil 3A2043. I asked him specifically how many Menemsha models were manufactured. He responded in the same day; there were 219 Menemsha models manufactured from 1967-1971 and a 35 boat run in 1974. I recommend you send an email to Chuck and ask him for data about the Katama model. I have owned two Katama models in the past. Backriverexpress, what are you planning for the third empty bay in your barn?

Unfortunately, it's probably not possible to know without confirmation from the manufacturer. Even with a good HIN database, the hull numbers are rarely sequential so there can be large gaps. For instance, some manufacturers will designate a certain number range for a given month or year of production, and then skip to the next sequence at the end of that month or year regardless of how many hulls were produced.

Maybe since there are so few he counted for you. I asked him about Outrage 22 hulls of which I think at most there can be about 250ish per year since they only had one mold (or so I was told). I heard the 17 Montauk had 2 molds.
