Hello all,
Just want to introduce myself. I am a new owner of a 1976 Newport (for now). Picked her up about a month ago, the boat is kinda in a rough shape and missing some of the original hardware (rails, front screen etc..). Therefore I am going to restore and modified her to become a Montauk, or I rather say Newtauk.

Last week, I started to remove the engine from the hull (by the way, take a guess on the engine size that came with the boat? I'll give you a hint: wayyyyyyyyyy overpower!!!. :)

From looking and tapping at the transom, it seem to be very solid and still in good shape. However, where the engine's bolts are mounted, the area under that bolts and washers is being "dented" in, I would say about 1/8 inch. Could it be the bad transom or the previous owner over tighten the bolts? Is that something that I should concern or worry about?

I'll upload some pictures sometime later.
