I have been redoing my 1968 13 foot. I have looked everywhere for the plastic caps that are in the gunwales.anyone have any suggestions on what to use or where to find them. Thanks Matt

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

I don't know where you can find them, but I do know what you are talking about. When you remove the brass oar lock bracket, there is a plastic sleeve embedded in the gel coat under the brass fitting. I removed mine and both were cracked. I plan on gluing them to seal the crack and replace them as they are not seen when the boat is finished. I will continue to watch this post to see if someone has a source to purchase new, but i doubt it. Good luck on your project.

Thanks for the help tsaville. Caplugs made the plastics inserts. They stopped making them in 1987. They still have the tooling but there was a 5000 piece minimum at $0.16 apiece! I ordered a foot of plastics tube from mcmaster Carr and a plug that is the same dimensions. I will let you know how it turns out.

Now if we can find 2,498 more people that need them, we can place an order. Let me know how the plastic tubing works out. I think the gel coat was sprayed over the part when the boat was manufactured. You may need to ream out the hole prior to installing the tube as the hole is the same shape (fluted) as the plastic part in my boat (1968).

Never had my oar locks out in 13 years.

Learn something all the time.

Again, any photos so we all can view these for future reference?

Finally posted a picture. The plastic tubing works fine. I turned down the OD of it so that it went into the hole. I used 5200 to seal the bottom with a rubber plug. I got all this done and the sales rep from caplugs told me that he needed my address so he could send me a pair of samples of part number 185. They arrived and were a perfect match the my original caps.

Unfortunately your photo does not work so it doesn't help show anyone what you are looking for.

Thanks anyway.

There are Oar Lock Sockets and Oar Lock Horns. Still not sure which one you were referring too.

Is this what you are looking for? I did a Google search for oarlock socket inserts and this is 1 of a few options that showed up in the search. http://www.boatstore.com/50091121-oarlock-socket-insert.html?utm_source=googlepepla&utm_medium=adwords&id=18283950120&gclid=CjwKEAjw7qi7BRCvsr3N58GvsTkSJAA3UzLvMxmiwiP4vVtvQ-7UzfcebMhjjNoJfr8XdIitMcpEjhoCHETw_wcB
