Got this home the other day and stuffed it into the garage. My dad gave this to my best friend and myself about 10 years ago. Shortly after that I moved away and my best friend got busy with his own business and making a family. I moved back about a year ago and he had barely touched it. Last week I told him it needed some love and I was going to come get it and that was that. The motor actually starts and sounds great while running, however, it needs a lot of cosmetic work. I'll probably be posting looking for help when I run into problems. Here she is!

Last night I spent some time cleaning out out, going to start on the wood today. I also scored some nice boat stands yesterday.

Good luck with your project! Let me know if you have any questions. We just finished mine in October. Put a Yamaha F50 on it, and it runs great!

Thank you! I'm sure I'll be asking plenty of questions.

Congratulations on your acquisition. The 15 is a great boat. It's amazing what some cleaning and varnish will do. In the end with some TLC she will turn out beautiful. I notice the engine is mounted 1 hole up. You will want to raise it up to at least 2 holes up and possibly 3 holes up.

Your before pictures look almost exactly like the 1988 15 SS I BOUGHT in Dec. 2013. My wife said the seller probably ran to the bank. After several months of sand paper, varnish, soap, water and wax I have a pretty good looking restore. Yours with time and effort will be beautiful. Congratulations on starting the project and let me know if I can be of help.

Eerily similar, mine was an 87, I traded the motor for "delivery". Good luck with her, let us know if you need anything.

It's been a while since my last post.. When the weather changed my business took off and has delayed my whaler project. Anyways, I started to figure out what needed to be done. I'm going to blast the old bottom paint off and then sand everything above the waterline including the inside of the boat. I need to fill all of the gouges with something, just not sure what. I started sanding the boat in certain areas to see how bad it would be. Some areas stayed white while other areas were grey. Anyone know if I should sand down to the grey? As soon as I can get a friend to help, I'm going to get the motor off. I drilled out the rub rail rivets and apparently someone had been under there before and not been so gentle.

I have some questions... Inside of the hull there are little bumps/grips all over. Should I sand these down or just clean them? What kind of filler should I use? What about the damage on the bottom of the hull? Also, as mentioned above, should I sand down to the grey color or try to keep it white? I plan on painting the interior.
