I'm curious if anyone has knowledge on how the bow lift ring is built into Montauk's ?
I have a 1987 Custom 17 [former SS] and when I recently stripped and refinished the deck liner, I decided to leave the lift ring in place and worked around it.
I used the bow lift ring [and the two on the transom] to do a 3 pt lift and hull invert when I epoxy coated the bottom. It's definitely a hi-strength 'thru-hull', but I would like to know how water tight it is and can't really assess that w/out removing ring assembly.
My presumption is that it's a continuous tube structure of the same schedule f/glass laminate as the deck and hull.
Also, is there any reason to be concerned about water ingress to the foam interior from the laminate of the tube [if it is a tube]?
I expect washdown/rain from the deck side is more likely a source for ingress via this 'thru-hull'.
Otherwise, I can't see a good reason to even seal the edge w/3M 4200, from top or bottom.

It is not water tight and the factory did not bed any hardware with sealant.
The lifting rings use a threaded rod and there is no "tube. I highly recommend that you loosen them (if possible) and insert some marine sealant into the holes and bed the hardware.
Use a sealant, not adhesive.
