Welcome your Dad to the Outrage 17 I club, it is a small, but proud club since it was a unique boat that was only offered for 5 years. I owned one for 7 years and it was great.

I personally agree with Garris (don't ever cut into a Whaler unless you have to).

I used a hand held spot from the console when in the dark. Less overhead and more flexibility.

Make sure your Dad checks the seal on the light enclosure where they enter the hull. There should be a good seam of caulk. Don't want water getting in there.
