Hello..as I posted earlier today under Boats I have a 14' Rage Jet with 750cc/50hp Yamaha.

Hasn't run in 5 years..but last three years I've done some work on it..replacing the entire jet propulsion system behind motor to stern area..rebuilt carb..new starter, etc.

But last year when I turned ignition on I did get motor to fire but at the same time the opened electrical box smoked terribly what with two wires being exposed and coming into contact..and I had to undo one battery terminal to get it all under control...covered the little baby and went inside to hide from it..until today.

So, how would you approach this matter. I'm not good at electrical (obviously) and I've used 3 outside mechanics for work on the water propulsion refit..and I basically did it myself since they sat on the project or were too slow..and I went and picked it up.

Would you try to find a new/used wiring harness (difficult since not many Rage Jets around to pick from; and being a Whaler & with Yamaha motor makes it a dual problem imo) OR find a new/used electrical box.

OR..go away from the Jet concept all together and put on a 25-40hp outboard (after taking off the dive platform to get the room).

What say you?! Thanks, BiLL in Hilton Head Island
