I am looking to buy a 13' Boston Whaler that I have found ,but I am not sure about a few things that you guys might be able to help me with.
1 There are 2 bars that come from the transom to towards the bow of the boat.He says they came this way but I have never seen one before. He also says the boat was not painted but you can see paint on the nuts of the bars
2 The hin # is 4253BT and he says it is a 1959 model
3There is a hole under the hull that is poorly done could the hull have had to much water in it

Looks like the bars were added to reinforce the transom. I do not believe they are original.

Also, can you picture the whole boat so it can be confirmed it is a Whaler.

Agree those bars were added as transom reinforcement. The transom looks like there is swelling inside, probably because the plywood reinforcement is rotten. I would personally never consider this boat. Either the guy is totally clueless and knows nothing about the boat he owns or he's lying.

Really?
There were no HIN numbers until late 1972.
You might want to take a few minutes and read around on this site.

Thanks guys for the info. I passed on the boat, but I did find another. It is a 1981 13' that has a 2001 40hp yamaha. The one thing that bothers me is the bottom of the hull is painted black.Could this mean they are covering up a problem? He wants $3700.00 for it, and is that a fair price?
