I need to install a fuel line water seperator and a Guest power switch in my 1995 Montauk 17. I'd appreciate advice regarding placement of these two items in the boat, so they're effective but don't get in the way of cables, etc.. Many thanks.

Hines,
The battery switch should be located near the battery(s) whether in the console or near the transom.
The fuel water separator should be mounted on the transom out of the way. The transom has wood where the sides of the boat or the splashwell is only fiberglass.
Yes, somewhere out of the way in those locations. Your hoses and wiring should already be in place I assume, so without seeing any photos, choose a good spot.

I did not have a fuel/water separator on my Montauk because it had portable tanks.
My batteries were located in the console so that is where I had the battery switch.

Joe:

Thanks for the advice. As my battery is in the stern, stbd side, I'm thinking I should place the Guest switch on the transom next to the lifting ring. Is there wood backing on the side of the interior just in front of the transom that is also a possibility?

Re the fuel line water seperator, perhaps the other side of the transom is a good spot. For the water separator, I assume using ss bolts is a good idea. Am I correct?

Again, many thanks.

Regards, Michael

Michael,
There are wood locating drawings for most models on my drawings page which is shown on the Main page of this site.
