has anyone tried to make a pulpit for a montauk? when doing alot of anchoring in 100' it sure would be nice to have a roller and a place to leave the hook. not sure about the lengths i would have to go to for this to happen...might not be worth it.

bd,

Take a look at cajunman's Personal Page on this site just to give you some ideas.

I did the same thing on my Outrage 18' except I didn't extend the bow rail.

You could use the existing two holes from the Bow Light assembly but you would probably have to drill a couple holes back further in the bow area to make a solid mount.

i'm glad to see that someone else has done this. i think i'll ask cajunman about his install, and how its holding up. i think i would use a shorter pulpit, as i only need to get the rooler out front about 3-4 inches. also need to decide about the running lights. i think i would opt for an outrage-style setup. i don't think i need to modify my rails, i would like to keep things as stock as possible. thanks for the info, joe. i wonder if i should just wait and get an outrage?

bd,

Here is my outlook on the Outrage series.
I owned a Sport 13' for 13 years and always wanted a Montauk. Instead of looking for a Montauk, I went looking for an Outrage 18'. At that time, I could not find an Outrage at a good price so I ended up buying a 1978 Montauk. It was a great boat and I owned it for 15 years, however, once I did finally buy an Outrage 18', there was no comparison.

The Outrage 18' will go just about anywhere the Montauk would go (shallow waters) and almost as nimble. It was however a much better all around boat for my needs. About the only major difference is storage. You can't fit an Outrage 18' in a standard garage. The Outrage 18' also uses more fuel, 90 hp on the Montauk (usually) as opposed to 150 hp on the Outrage 18'.

Looking back on it, I shouldn't have waited so long to move up to the Outrage 18'. I am not putting down the Montauk, but the Outrage is much more of a smooth riding boat in heavy chop no matter how you look at it.
I am glad however that I've had the chance to own many different models.

As you can see from the link above, I am now more of an Outrage fan.....
I have tried larger Outrages but keep coming back to the 18' for my needs.

So, if you are thinking about moving up to an Outrage 18', I would highly recommend it.
