I have a 2005 Eastport 205 walk around. I want to install an 8' antenna and have considered two locations. The first is a rail mount at the second stantion going forward. If I place it there, I can drill a hole on the underside of the rail and run the antenna wire through the rail and into the boat hull through the end where it joins the boat. It should also resolve any interference with the gauges. I test fitted it to the rail and it works well in that positon. The other location I'm considering is on the stern quarter.
My question is if anyone has rail mounted an 8' whip antenna to the rail and is the wind load on it an issue? I don't want to overload the deck fittings on the rail.
If anyone has an idea that may help, I'd love to hear it.

BTW. mounting the antenna on the gunwale around the bimini interferes with walking forward. Otherwise that would be a good location.

I use an 8' solid core fiberglass whip ant. on the port quarter, it can fold down out of the way when not needed, and won't break if stepped on.

That's an option, but I'm hoping to keep it of the stern so as not to interfere with fishing. That is whay I'm interested in the rail mount.
