Because knowing your depth is one of the fundamental elements of navigation.

If you see your depth is shoaling rapidly, you know you may be approaching the beach or an obstruction.

It is very important that your depth sounder works at ALL SPEEDS.

Also, a good sounder will give a little radius and not just a straight down shot..............I do understand where you are coming from though.....at WOT it's not going to give you a lot of response time for what's under the boat!

When you're zipping along offshore looking for that big drop off where the cod like to hide, it's nice to be able to cover some ground at speed while still being able to see the depth...

You don't have to be offshore to appreciate knowing the depth at speed. Even in the river, it's nice to know when i hit one side of the channel

I struggle with my transducer holding the bottom at speed, so I will move it on the transom in the spring.

I was looking for stripers this morning at 25 knots. Normally - I don't mind cruising, but with only an hour available, I was able to get to where the fish were.
