I just bought this unit, it was on sale and look's like the "best bang for the buck", I never have any luck with a fish finder (they always break after a few season's on me), is this unit any good, or did I buy "Junk" again ? I'm just interested in finding the bottom (preferably without my lower unit as the "scout"). Any "Thought's" ?

Can't answer about that particular model, but I've been running Garmins for years and have yet to have one fail on me

I've had 2 "Lowrance", and 1 "Humminbird" so far, I'm crossing my finger's with "Garmin".

I've had a Garmin 120 FF which is essentially the same as the 140, for several years and it's been great. No problem whatsoever.

Thank's guy's. I appreciate the input, I'm hoping this one will last a while, I try and take care of them but, they are "Electronics" on a boat used in salt water.

i`ll be buying either a 140 or a 300 in a few months, and my boat also lives in salt water so i`ll let you know how it fares. just hoping it improves my chances of catching something!!! lol

Matt: I bought my Whaler last March and it came with a Garmin 140. I ran the summer with it and it was one of the most accurate bottom finders I have used. It didn't hold the bottom at 20-25 Knts but when I slowed down it latched on pretty quick

Right at the end of the summer I whacked the sender and it didn't swivel up and broke parts that can't be fixed. So, the moral is, pay attention to how tight you make the tarnsom sensor swivel.

Thank's men !

I got it on sale at "Boatersworld.com", most people paid $105 w/ship...
Of course "I" paid $210 because, they "banged" my account "TWICE" but, I'm NOT worried because I spoke with "Tom" (who has no last name) at the co. and he told me he would "Check it out" and call me "Right Back"........3 days ago.

Where and how do you mount the transducer on a 13'? Since this is an inexpensive unit I might use it.
