Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: RSS feeds not directing to specific post

I use an RSS reader to "stay on top of" the postings but I have noticed that when I click on the link in my reader (google), it takes me to the main discussion forum and not the post itself.

I see that the actual url for a post looks like this:

and the url from the rss reader will take me here:

"http://www.whalercentral.com/forum/index.php#post_33825" (which only takes me to the forum index)

Anyone else run into this issue? Do we simply need to edit the urls that are being fed via RSS to look like the first one in this post?

yes I have noticed this as well and if I am remembering correctly this was not always the case..... the link used to take you to the actual post.

I'm not sure about other readers as I haven't tried them.

Our RSS forum feed looks like this:
Forum Feed

When you click on "Read More" it takes you directly to that post....

However, I do notice a problem when there is more than one page of posts in the forum feed, it will only take you to the first page on that thread. We need to fix the rowstart for our RSS feeds but that shouldn't have anything to do with other readers.

I'm not sure why your reader wants to take you to the index.php instead or the viewthread.php
More investigation is needed

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the links. I think they're taking me to the same url. Not the end of the world, just means a little more time searching. Small price to pay for such a good site right?

Thanks,

Gerrit

Gerrit,

We are still investigating.
Our feeds seem to work on some browsers but not on other browsers.

This shouldn't have any effect on other RSS readers though so we are not sure what is going on. We obviously have no control of the other readers and how they work.

All RSS readers and feeds should work. After all, RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication... Not so simple when it doesn't work properly.

Not sure if this helps but I tried the links using Google Reader in Both Firefox and Chrome and both took me to the discussion page and not the thread itself.

For some reason IE is messed up here at work. I think the fact that our servers are in Canada may be confusing the IE browser.

I have updated the rss file and added the RSS Validation panel in the lower left.

Click on the RSS Validation and you will see that our site is validated.
See if this works better for the RSS Readers some of you have.

If the RSS Readers still aren't working properly, please let us know.
