I'd like to replace the brass thru hull tubing along the transom on our 1987 montauk 17. I've found helpful resources on this issue and have tracked down the tools and parts required. Both from McMaster-Carr: Brass tubing part# 8950K791 and EPDM o-ring part# 9557K482 (dash number 213).
The existing brass tubing is brittle, cracked, and some of the flanges have broken off and are missing leaving the inner part of the brass tubing within the thru hull fitting. See photo on my personal page.
Do you think it is worth trying to chisel out the old tubing, or replace the tubing with a more narrow OD, such as 3/4"?
Has anyone else dealt with this?

You need to "turn on" your personal page.
From your post, you need to replace the entire tube and O rings. Do not reduce the tubing, remove the entire tube and replace with 1".
You will need a flaring tool as well.

Thanks for the reply Phil. I figured replacing it entirely would be the best choice, will just take my time chiseling out the old brittle brass tubing.
My personal page is set to ONLINE, maybe it's still in the review and approval process by admins?

I have a whole bag of the o-rings and will send you some if you want. E-mail is best and in page here. McMaster-Carr has them and the tubing. I changed mine (1988) 2 years ago.
