2000 Montauk 17 - My Montauk has aluminum frames for the two center console hatches. The doors are made of some type of starboard material, not sure. The coating on the aluminum frames is flaking off and so I’m Trying to determine what type of coating was used in 2000. Did BW use gelcoat over aluminum, or paint or something else. Thanks.

The finish material on the door frames is most likely paint or powder coated.

I would give it a light sanding, wipe it down with acetone. Use Rustoleum, or similar, spray paint for metal.
