My 1981 Montauk has no cover over the cables in the stern of the boat. As I have been reconditioning it the past few weeks I have noticed the pine needles like to collect there, as does dirt. I purchased a mahogany board and was planning to use that. I can cut it out to fit and line up the holes that are already there. I also have a scrap of starboard in the garage I could use.
Thoughts or preferences? Or will neither really work?

HDPE plastic is a low maintenance choice.

Are you referring to the Sump Cover?
See the "Montauk 17' Sump Cover" in our Download section.
