My steering is very sloppy at idle. Is there way to tighten it up?

when you turn the wheel, how much does it turn before the engine starts to move?
Have you checked the connecting rod on the engine end?
There is no adjustment in the helm.
Is there play with the wheel on the helm shaft?
How many hours on the engine?
