Hi everyone, what are the options for boarding a classic whaler 15 from the back. We are using the boat for skiing a lot every summer and some of my son's friends are having a hard time getting in. I found a website (martin marine design) that sells a platform/ladder which is more or less what I would like but its $400, I don't like the looks that much.

You climb in just behind the rear twart. Just like climbing up on a floating dock. If they can't handle that you can use the anti-vent plate on the engine. Lastly you can buy a 3 rung hook ladder and put it out for the lazy ones.

Martin Marine's work is second to none. I have never seen anything like his welds, they are beyond perfect. You get what you pay for. There isn't much wood to attach a ladder to back there, and Martin has some special hardware he uses to make it work.

I have a 15 and when I stand at the rear of the boat I can get the transom splash-well opening to nearly at the waterline... nobody should have an issue climbing aboard while someone stands back there. That said, your options are limited for mounting on the transom and a custom piece is probably required if you want to go that route, in which case you'll be paying for MMD's work or paying someone else to do it. The 3 step hook ladder is the other option as mentioned.

I put the Martin ladder on my 17 after trying to make a cheaper option work. It is well worth the price.
