Hi all,
I have a 1978 whaler 15 Sport with no cleats installed. I was wondering if anyone has used mooring whips without cleats on their boat? If so, how did you set it up? . I don’t really want to put anyone more holes in the boat if I don’t have to.

Thank you

For attaching dock lines, use the exterior transom eyes and the bow eye. For forward whip, use the Norman pin.

Dick Fisher did not see the need for cleats.

Thank you! Would you attach the rear whip to the transom eye as well?

On my Whalers I had loops on my whip lines. The front would just go around the norman pin and the stern would go through the inside lifting eye and just loop around once. They do not have to be looped around like a line because they always have pressure on them(or should). If you want to you can put the whip on first and then the line over it to secure it more. I do not do this because if you untie the boat and the whip is still attached, a gust of wind can move the boat and possibly damage the whip if contorted too much.
