I need a mooring cover for my 1982 Boston Whaler Sport 17 I have contacted W Mills but they want 1300$ + shipping for a cover. Does anyone know of an alternative. I was hoping to keep the cost below $700. I'm sure the custom shops would charge as much as Mills. The main problem seems to be how to clip the cover to the gunwale.
thanks for any information you may have

Dana, try Carver, they make a nice custom fit cover for Whalers. Most covers outside of Mills use draw strings to secure the cover as well as straps in some instances. I am curious to know if Mills sells the clips to sew on to other tops? They are convenient but not all Mills covers use them, mine does not have them on my 18' Outrage.

Dana -
Both Carver and Westland make direct fit and semi-fitted covers for many classic Boston Whaler models in various fabrics. They are good quality.
Shop the several online retailers because prices for the same cover vary.

I would at least try your local canvas shop. I needed a cover a few years ago and a local shop was cheaper (still not cheap) and more important to me, the cover fit properly. Took the boat over to him on a Tuesday and picked it up the next day.
