I am currently in the process of restoring my 1980 Sport 15 and al planning to repower it with a 2020 Yamaha F70 4 Stroke.

In searching the internet I have found that some others, and most notably Read Fasse who has a company called FasseCo (website: fasseco.com), with his wife Julie in Nashville are using -5 degree wedges between the engine mounting bracket and the transom to help with the bow down trim on the 15s they rebuild. I also noticed that they mount the engine what looks to be approximately 2 inches higher than the top of the transom. Read and Julie do beautiful work and it appears that they have rebuilt quite a few 15s, mounting the engine this way on all of them.

Can anyone comment on their experience and recommendations regarding the best placement of the engine?

Thanks very much in advance for your reply and help!

If you do a search here you will find most F70 installs on a 15 Sport are mounted 3 holes up. This means the top bolt is the 4th hole down, counting down from the top.

Wlagarde has a great project album showing the mounting template and the engine mounted.

You will absolutely love that engine. I had a 2016 on an aluminum boat for the last 4 years, got an average of 7 nmpg, and runs like a sewing machine. I was running a Power-Tech 16P 3-blade SS prop.

Not sure if wedges are necessary. I have owned half a dozen 15's and never thought they would be beneficial, especially with PTnT. Mounting it at least 2" above transom I consider essential.
