Hey all, the cable on my 1971 Sourpuss 13 remote steering broke. This is the model with the center steering. I would like to keep the boat all original. Can anyone tell me where I can get a replacement cable, or the gauge and length of the original so I can track down a cable?

Is this cable and pulley steering or the black coated cable with the steering rod style steering?

Here are some pics to clarify the cable.

What is the stencil number on that hull? There are a few late 1971's with the new styled hull like that.

2AG159
The engine is a 1970 Johnson 33. They were purchased together new at the dealership in 1971.

In doing a search, I see the specs for the wire are 3/8" stainless but no mention of length. I would measure what you have and add several feet.

McMaster-Carr is a good source for purchasing

The rigging of the cable looks wrong.

Did you mean 2A6159? If so that is a late 1971. 2A8159 I believe would make it a 1972 that could have been purchased in 1971 as a 1972 model. 2A9159 is already registered here as a 1972 sport.

Yes, 2A6159. it is a 1971. Thanks for all your help and info. This Whaler was given to me by the widow of one of my high school math teachers 3 months ago. His parents bought it new for him when he graduated high school in 1971. A few years after he passed away, his widow, who is a colleague of my wife, was talking to her and mentioned that she had her husbands old fishing boat and wondered if I would be interested in a boat to take my son fishing. My wife said," uh, yeah!" Little did I know it was a classic vintage Boston Whaler, running motor, and trailer. All original! I was shocked! Other than some parts for the motor and some maintenance, it was 100% free. I currently have about $50 in it! Just need to replace this cable and I will be fishing!
