The wires for both the bow and stern lights on my 1995 Dauntless 170 DC have disapeared into the hull.and I understand that the best way to run wires to those locations is under the Rub Rail. I also understand that it may be necessary to replace the insert rather than trying to use the old one. Is that correct? How do you know what kind of insert is required. Are the inserts cut to length when installed and the actual rail proprietary to the boat?
What sort of cost per foot of insert can I expect and are there a wide range of prices and quality? For my application inexpensive is ideal. I have been trying to study up on the subject but you guys seem to simplify it nicely.
Thank you gentleman

You would only need to replace if it breaks. Just disconnect it from the stern and remove to the bow, no need to remove the whole insert. Put it back in with a large flat screwdriver or gasket scraper and a mallet. most use the starboard side. I thought by that year they were in the rubrail from the factory.
PS....you have not seen Joe's new banner yet I assume. You do not have a 170 Dauntless as they did not start using 3 number sizes until 2002.
