I am considering buying a Super Sport. My question is would it be considered
"Whaler Blasphemy" to convert it to center console configuration? If not, has anyone done that?

The 17' Super Sport was made from 1984 to 1988 and had a one piece wrap around railing that may not be good for a Center Console.

Welcome to Whaler Central. The Boston Whaler 17 Super Sport model is a good boat. I have owned a Super Sport 17. First thing I did with the boat after I bought it was remove the wood interior pieces; the original solid mahogany wood was in poor condition with peeling polyurethane finish.

There are many Whaler Central members that have converted their boats to custom configurations: Take a look at WC member hullinthewater's personal page. The founder of Boston Whaler, Dick Fisher, encouraged Boston Whaler owners to customize their craft to suit their own needs. There are BW advertisements that mention:

Thank you very much for your reply and the photos of yours and hulinthewater's beautiful boats! (I just joined Whaler Central yesterday!)

Obviously, much TLC was performed by both of you!

These give me inspiration to convert my soon to be BW.

Just FYI, I have looked at my neighbor's SS, covered in his backyard for four years. He has not wetted the hull in 7-8 (?) years, but recently told me he would indeed sell it to me if I am still interested.

I am a big fan of the wood in BWs and plan to do whatever modifications I decide with wood. It just sets off these classic boats and is not seen in many boats anymore except as trim pieces.
