Hi, I'm the new owner of a 1972 13' whaler and in the process of restoring it. Trying to keep it all original.
I'd like to buy new wire rope for the steering and I'm not sure of diameter or length to buy.
What diameter, length and breaking strength should I buy? I looked all over and could not find specs for original wire rope.
I see McMaster-Carr has coated flexible wire rope with 700 or 1200 LB break strength.
I prefer to stay classic with wire rope & pulleys.
Any guidance greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Brendan

Ditch the wire, especially if you are making it a 20" transom which would also be a major benefit. Keeping it original is great. Making it better is better.
