1987 boston whaler outrage 18 feet

My anchor locker has a hatch which has no hinges. I had a 13 ft whaler that had a bungee cord arrangement underneath with some eye hooks. Can anyone tell me is this the same for the outrage? I do see some rivets protruding underneath the hatch and also on the forward bulkhead. If anyone has a photo of the way it is supposed to be I would sincerely appreciate it. One more question as a general rule should the thru hull drain in this compartment be open while cruising? Or just when rinsing anchor?

thanks in advance,
Richard F. Beady

Early model years of the Outrage 18-25's did not have hinges on the anchor locker. Whaler installed them on 1989 and later years. Per LHG.

The hinges were installed on the starboard side of the cover. The link below is to a photo from Joe Kriz's Outrage 20.

The hinge would have a short side on the lid. One example:

(edit) - In looking around I see the hinge installed with the short side on the lid and on the deck.

The fasteners would be barrel nuts/sex bolts.

The parts diagram for the Outrage 18 dated 11/1985 shows the anchor locker cover was held in place with a shock cord and two eye straps. One eye strap was fastened to the cover with two #8x1" screws and the second eye strap was fastened with two rivets to the anchor locker forward bulkhead.
