Two questions:
1. Where could One purchase the floor board for a 1978 Montauk console?
2. How does one fasten the floor board to the console?

Billy B: Bob Latourelle, of Haverhill MA., an accomplished builder/carpenter/shipwright, can fabricate for you an original spec console floor cleat made of mahogany, like the original piece. You will have to do the countersinks to line up with the exisiting holes in your deck, so save the original mahogany cleat. For sure, the cleats wear out and suffer water rot. One of the main reasons a center console mahogany floor cleat wears out is loose hardware. The holes round out when the screws are loose. The screws need to be tightened and sealed annually. Bob is old school: you can call him directly and he will answer in voice (not a delayed text): (978) 374-1384.

Thanks Weatherly, but I think we’re talking about different parts. I’m sure I using the wrong term, but I’m referring to the bottom board inside the console...that the battery sits in/on.

My Montauk has plastic angle supports attached to the console the board sits on and screws from the bottom.

Ok, cut yourself a precise fitting piece of 1/2 marine plywood and use the existing anodized angle L-brackets to secure the brackets to the base of the console interior wall using stainless wood screws. A battery installed inside the console should not be seated on the piece of plywood but rather you should cut out a hole for the battery to rest on deck with a pad between battery and deck so as to not wear on the non-skid deck.

Thanks guys. I do have the existing bottom piece I can use as a template. It does have cut outs for the batteries. So there’s a separate bracket that supports the console base that attaches to the angle bracket that mounts the console to the deck? If yes, can the screws secure both brackets? Or are they fastened separately?
