Hey everybody.

I have a 16 currituck I'm in the process of restoring. I've owned the boat for 6 + years and bought side rails and stanchions from craigslist around 4-5 years ago. The rails and t fittings are obviously stainless and in good shape. The rail stanchions, standoff and base fittings are brass where all chrome or stainless look as come off. I'm wondering why these would be brass and if they were like this from factory? I want to get them back up to the stainless look but unsure on how to tackle this without having them professionally chromed or replaced. The boat wont be a show room restore as it will stay in the water 9 months out of the year, I'm just looking to get it back up to how it was .

I appreciate the help and knowledge of this forum.

So what is the year of your Whaler? Many older whaler parts, or should I say fittings are not stainless yet coated to look like that. Even on my 1981 Revenge 25 and my 1967 Nausset plus a couple others along the way they were and are rarely stainless but coated fittings. I could not give you the exact content of the material, I just know they are mostly coated to look stainless.
