I am looking to add smart tabs to our 1999 Dauntless w/ the original two stroke 135 hp 2 stroke mercury. Anyone have experience w/ this boat adding tabs? I am thinking about going w/ the aluminum and bumping up to the version that handles the 150 hp but not sure if I should stick w/ the version that handles the 135 hp. (The engine is right at the cutoff for the next size up...) does it make sense to buy and install the trim plate retractor kit as well? Looking for input. Thank you.

You didn't tell us what size Dauntless you have. I assume it's an 18 or 180.
Why not just install a set of trim tabs. A set Of Bennet Bolts or Lenco electric tabs would be an easy install and serve you better.

I would recommend trim tabs.

The boat is a 1999 18’ dauntless. It has been great for island hopping but I am now leaning more towards actual trim tabs. My marina is very much against the smart tabs and recommend the auto retract feature to avoid issues when taking the boat in and out of the water w the lifts.
Any brand recommendations ?

I've always preferred Bennet tabs but Lencos are well regarded as well. My experience with Bennet customer service was always very positive.
I recommend some searches for reviews on both brands.
