Hi folks. Anyone have a recommendation of someone that can repair/restore an original Ritchie Red Compass?

Thank you
Chris

Your best bet is to send it back to the Ritchie factory in Pembroke, MA. They will take good care of you, and their charge for repairing/refurbishing is usually nominal.

There is a company in Metairie, LA that rebuilt the compass on my Morgan 38 sailboat. They did a beautiful job. Contact me for more info at (EDIT: removed email per guideline #4 at the top of this page)

I recall reading that in many cases if you send it back to Richie, they give you a new one (if still in production).

There is a compass repair project photo album on this site if you do a search.

I had already redone mine before I stumbled on it. I spent hours buffing mine to near new condition, appearance wise.

A doable project if you want to do it yourself.

What does yours need?

I just did an exhaustive research and also consulted with Ritchie for a compass on another boat I have (1077 23' Penn Yan). They may or may not have product support for the older Ritchies (they are phasing/phased out product support for the old compasses). What you may want try or ask about is fitting a current compass into the red housing. Take yours apart and get measurements. If they have something that works look into the combidial series. You do not have to be directly over it to read it. Have your measurements on hand. Ritchie is extremely nice to consult with.
