The remote cables for my 1985 Yamaha 40 are way too long. Can they be shortened of will I need to replace them with a shorter set. Thanks for your input.

Shorter set if available. I opened up the the helm control cable handle to see if I could shorten the cables for my Yamaha kicker (snip the wire ends and reconnect).....way too much going on in there. I actually felt a little lucky cramming all the wires and such back together without messing something up. I was told to bundle the excess length.

Exactly my suspicion. I don't thing they cost very much and it is probably a much bigger task then you might expect and probably way above my pay grade. Thank you.

They are not able to be resized. They are sold by the foot.
If you add a loop at the engine, it will take up some of the excess.

Jim - If you need new cables, be sure to buy the SeaStar Solutions (Teleflex) XTREME cables.
They are the smoothest in operation of any on the market and top of the line. I use them exclusively. I think a Yamaha control to Yamaha outboard uses the universal ends type, #3300.
