I'm currently restoring my 1989 Outrage 18 and I am working on replacing various fasteners where needed and wondered if anybody had info about the original design/intention to bungee the igloo cooler to the teak chocks. I see replicas for sale online with the bungee passed through a drill hole, but my chocks had d-rings with clips that look just like basic picture frame hardware. They are heavily rusted, so definitely not stainless steel. I wondered whether or not that was in fact an original design/intention from Whaler and if anyone has/had something similar in hardware on their Outrage teak chocks? I don't want to drill holes through mine. There are somewhat similar looking stainless d-rings available today, but would ideally like to install new stainless hardware to reflect what was originally done by Whaler in 1989 if possible.

The OEM installation was two holes drilled and the bungie threaded through the hole and held by a knot on the end. There is an additional wide hook added to the cooler using the handle screws.
On my Montauk I installed simple stainless screw eyes on the cleat to take the bungie hooks I added to the new bungie cord.

Looking over OEM photos, it appears I have Montauk chock blocks in my Outrage. I had assumed the cooler chocks were installed by Whaler and correct to model, but it must have been an add on by the original owner (I’m second owner) and he had purchased and installed the incorrect item. It’s likely the chocks weren’t drilled anywhere and just blanks as the 3-hole pattern to fasten to the hull doesn’t match what I see in photos and the D-rings w/ clips were screwed in to hold the bungee. I’ll have evaluate the holes in the hull and the correct OEM chocks to see what I’ll do moving forward. The chocks were very weathered and weren’t a recent add on.
