Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: 17 Montauk gas tanks?

Looking at Moeller etc. The old 12 gal steel ones were 19x14x12. None of the plastic Moeller that I see online seem to match up to that. Probably been answered here plenty, but I can't find in search. Which aftermarket tanks fit the deck pads on a 1985 Montauk?
Thank you for help.

I presume you don't want to go with the Mirax aluminum tanks? Sweet but a bit of $$..

Tempo had a plastic 12 gallon that fit perfectly back in the day. Moeller, when it bought Tempo, ditched that model and kept their 12 gallon model instead. It's deeper and a little taller.

See http://www.easternmarine.com/moeller-...k-630012lp

You may need to remove the mats and use Dri-Dek squares instead.

Be warned, the new EPA compliant caps are troublesome.

From what I can tell, Moeller is in a state of transition with their 12 gallon high profile tanks, with three different shapes recently being made. It appears now they have gone back to their original shape, which was used before the Tempo purchase. It has a notched-in bottom, and looks like this:

Those are NOT the ones you want.

Instead, try to find some of the previous design, which has nice square bottom edges to fit into the Whaler tank mats. If you need new tank mats, you can get them from Twin cities, incidentally. You want the tanks that look like this:

I have noticed that some of the websites are saying don't count on the photo they are using - that it may not be accurate. So be careful when buying. If that Amazon photo is correct, I would buy those last two fast. It's a good deal.

Moeller still makes the low profile vented cap for about $12, so I would get those also and avoid all that EPA pressure tank mess.

The third version of this same tank has beveled lower corners, so I would avoid those also, as they may not stay in the fuel tank mats when empty.

I used dri dek under my mirax tanks and it works great. Just a thought if you can't find the originals.
