I have a 1968 Nauset which I use mostly in shallow coastal waters, but occasionally I go offshore when the water is calm. I need an anchor that works well in both situations. I have always preferred to use a Danford type anchor, but I cannot find a suitable place to stow it as it will not fit in the bow locker. I would appreciate any suggestions for anchor types and storage. Space is very limited. What works for you?

I use a 15# navy anchor that self stores on my custom made anchor pulpit. I fish in a river with strong current and it has always held as long as I use enough scope. See my personal page.

Bob - I have seen the rail clips, but I'm afraid I have removed my bow rail so that I can fish more easily from the fore deck. I don't think hanging it from the side rails would work to well -too far from the bow. Thanks for the suggestion.

Having previously owned a Nauset for 15 years, there is really no good place to stow a Danforth/Fortress type anchor. You might try to find a small, lightweight plow style anchor, which should be narrower and fit in the front locker. Wrap it up in a big towel to protect the gelcoat in the locker.
Get the smallest one available.

I use a 4# Fortress anchor in my Montauk, Outrage 19 and Outrage 21.
It holds well for all three size boats. The Montauk,, however, has a larger bow locker in which the Fortress easily fits.

I also swear by fortress anchors. They are aluminum and lightweight and they do have a version that comes with a stowage bag. It isn't the perfect solution but maybe you can just put it on and off the boat only when needed.

Thanks. The Plow anchor and the Fortress anchors sound like good solutions. I will look at them today. I thought about cutting the horns down on the Danforth anchor so it would fit in the locker, but decided that would not be a good thing to do. Thanks again for all the suggestions.
