New to site, lots of great info! question, I have a 1969 Saugatuck 17'. The copper tube that goes from the "well" in the floor and holds the drain plug and drains the water through the bottom of transom is rotted and pulled out. Tube measures about 6.5" Hull ID is NJZ57 75906 86
Does anyone know where i can get a replacement tube? thx

When my 1979 Montauk needed a replacement because of the metal tube rotting I went to the local Whaler dealer and ordered a plastic replacement. That was in 1999. It is 2016 and the plastic is as good as in 1999. No more rotting metal.
Stern Tube part # 1073071 1999 price $21.
Nut part # 1042084 1999 price $2.50
I use 3M 5200 to glue it together. No leaks and no rotting since 1999.
You can replace it with a metal one, but you need a flaring tool. Plastic just a tube of 5200 and maybe a hacksaw and file.

I got the hull ID off the title but there is a white stenciled # on the well, I assume that is the hull ID?

NJ is the State registration number.
The VIN (vessel ID number) is on the stern transom of boat. It is a 12 digit number BWC (Boston Whaler) this is manufacturers ID code (MIC) then a serial number and month year built. This number is also on the registration.
The stencil number is in the splash well.

thx much guys! Lots of great info. I ordered the plastic replacement tube this week. Whaler list in Brielle offered to let me borrow the tool for a few hours if I ordered the copper tube but I went with the plastic.

Hey Joe: I can't believe you never heard of a Saugatuck. Located on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, Saugatuck is an artsy resort community with lots of whalers. There probably should be a Whaler called Saugatuck. Be well.

You know it. And many more. Been that way for as long as I can remember--and I'm really old.
