I am in the process of replacing the bow hatch for my 1964 13' BW.
I noticed on my old one that the hatch has two wood strips, one on each end.
Is this standard or stock and if so, I am assuming the purpose was to keep the board from moving?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The early years of the 13' Whalers had lift handles on the front bow hatch and I believe it was some time in the early 70's that they changed the design to a flat bench with a finger hole in the center. I personally like the original bench with the wood lift handles on each end of the bench. My family has a 13' Sport from the mid 60's that I restored all the wood on a few years ago and the front bow hatch also had the wood lift handles as well. There was also some rubber stripping on each side of the bench that was sandwiched between the top and bottom of the bench to give a snug fit between the wood hatch and fiberglass of the boat. It was held in with a few brass tacking nails.
