Good Afternoon,

I have a 1993 Montauk 17 with a C24 Pate fuel tank and the gas cap needs to be replaced. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I could find one? I have included a picture of the existing one for reference.

Since no one has answered, caps may not be available as Pate went out of business.

You probably don't want to hear this, but what about a new tank as the older Pate fiberglass tanks can deteriorate from the inside?

I agree with Joe, I had a fiberglass Pate tank that deteriorated from inside and caused all kinds of issues with my carbs. Small broken up bits of fiberglass made their way through my fuel system into my carbs. My tank was much older though, it was from a 1984 boat.

Wow.... I have a 1997 Dauntless 17' built-in 39-gallon fuel tank. Is there a visible sign that tells you if its time to replace? Thanks

Don't panic! The problem is with the Pate tank - most of them were built with a resin that will not stand up to ethanol. I assume your Dauntless has an aluminum or poly tank - nothing to worry about unless you smell gas.

Pate made fiberglass fuel tanks that are above deck. The Dauntless has an aluminum below deck tank.

Thanks Phil, you saved me from browsing the "how to replace built in fuel tank". Now I can focus back to replacing helm and cable :-)
