I'm looking for a source for rail fittings to replace the originals on my 1982 outrage 18 that have lost their chrome plating. Specialty Marine seems to think they are different from the ones they stock. Does anyone have any experience with replacing these? I have aske SM to send me one so I can check myself if it is different from what i have. If it is I will be looking for another source or perhaps a source for replating them.

Hi Tom,
Have you considered having your old fittings rechromed? I did this a few years back for a number of parts on my boats. They came out looking great, and the price was far less than replacement of the pieces involved. This particular shop did have a minimum lot charge, but once you exceed that it is pretty economical.

Thanks Dennis. That may be the best route. I'll have to start looking for someone who does replateing. I'm in northern Vermont not many shops around here I may have to venture afield.

Tom Most of the fittings you would find have a slightly different hole pattern.I looked at 5 manufacturers and all where the same pattern but not what whaler used.I did have my originals replated so do not waste your time looking.Replating is the way to go.

Info on most of these parts is in our "OEM Part Info and Photos" section.

Here are the base fittings for Outrages etc.

Are you looking for the 60º rail fittings or the 60º base fittings?
Or both?

Thanks everyone,

I went ahead and ordered one 60 degree base fitting from Specialty marine to see if it is what I need. If it isn't then we keep looking for some one to re-plate mine. I only need the base fittings and the one that joins the two haves of the railing together at the bow.

This site is great. I bought the outrage last week knowing it would be a project to bring back(all cosmetic issues. The hull and motor are very sound.) Anyway it's comforting to know there are great resources out there.

CMI in Weymouth, MA had many of the fittings available in the past, I would give them a try.
