I have found a gas tank for a 1980s Outrage 18/ 1990-1991 Outrage 19 that has never been used. It is an OEM 63- gallon tank. However, it was left outside and rain water accumulated in it. The owner doesn't know how long the water was in it and how much gunk is inside due to the water being in it. If I were to use it, I would need to clean it out. My question is: Can anyone tell me if this tank is baffled?

The metal fuel tanks were baffled, plastic not baffled. While out and no fumes/vapor to deal with you can install a tanks access plate on the opposite side of the fuel intake side and have access for cleaning both sides of baffle.

Not what I wanted to hear, but what I suspected. This brings up another question: Are there any downsides to replacing my current tank with plastic? If plastic is the best option, who makes them for this particular model? I don't know that my current tank is bad. The tank cover is delaminated and I am repairing it. While it is out, I figured it would be a good time to inspect the tank. I am just trying to do my homework before I have to make a possible decision.

My plastic was factory original made for a couple of years (1979 Revenge)...I installed an access plate by the fuel pick up tube to examine and clean. They are all custom so it may be worth exploring the innards of the tank you found. I doubt if you could find a plastic one that would fit correctly but.....who knows what you can find. Pretty amazing now a days. With an access of two inches minimum on either side of the baffle, you can always fuel polish. We would pressure wash the insides of old tractor tanks as well as rattle some chain in there to loosen things up. Let them sun dry. I do not recommend coating the insides...the shellac/coating material ultimately makes it to the filters and carbs.

My tanks access plate made by Seabuilt and was only a little over $100 and I cut the hole and installed it myself. A very well built piece of hardware.
