All,

I have an 1983 Montauk with bow rails. It had a Mills top on it but unfortunately it was destroyed in a hurricane. I am looking at the Carver Bimini Tops but can't seem to find a picture of it installed on the boat. Does anyone have any pictures of one installed on a Montauk so I can get comfortable with mounting and installation? My Main question is when it is folded down does it come down inside or outside the bow rail? I do not want to lost functionality should I want to put the top down.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

H

(changed abbreviated year to full 4 digit year for clarification)

I have a Carver top but it is on a 1998 Montauk. The original mounting method on my boat was an aluminum rail and the top would slide forward and go on the outside of the bow railing. The bow rails make a curve inward and then up so the top lays on the top of the gunnel. Now I have changed the top to the back of the boat because I have a bow trolling motor and I use rod holders on the main bow on the top. I just let it sit on the side rails now when trailering of fishing and keep the top up when we ride around or troll. I would check with Carver and see what the bow dimensions are. They make a good top...well they did back in 1998. I had one on my 15 also. They are made in upstate SC.

If you still need assistance with a size, I would be glad to help you select a bimini top for your boat, what Montauk model do you have?
