I'm fabricating new cooler cleats using the drawing on this site. My (new to me) boat has homemade cleats in place with no bungee and a Coleman cooler.
I have the wood, 3/8" bungee and hog rings in addition to the 94 qt. Igloo and new clamps for the bungee from Twin Cities. I noticed Twin Cities mentioned a "spring" and Specialty Marine photo shows a "S" ring in the cooler cleat assemblies they sell. Can anyone shed any light on these 2 items.
I just planned to put the bungee through the 13/32" hole and figured a loop with a hog ring around it will be captive in the 1" hole cavity in the cleat. I also think I'll have to determine the length of the bungee loop by trial and error. I think I also read the originals were mahogany.
Any hints would be appreciated.

Hi,
I made a pair of these a couple of years ago, based upon the plans found on this site. To anchor the bungee, I just knotted the ends with an overhand knot or two. Hasn't come out yet..

Regarding the cooler end of things, I just inserted a small stainless steel carabiner or snap-hook onto the hole on the cooler. The bungee is held securely, and I have spare 'biners in case I need them. Route the bungee over the cooler handles to keep them from banging while bouncing.

I did end up making the cleats out of teak. The original mahogany was somewhat deteriorated.

Whaler created their own part to remedy holding down the Igloo Coolers.

I suggest everyone take a quick look through the OEM Part photos on this site to familiarize themselves with what is there. Who knows, you may see a part you didn't know existed.

I did get a set of cooler hooks from Sue at Twin Cities and screwed them onto my new cooler.
