Our Whaler has a Teleflex Morse SL3 top mount control, is there any other required information besides length and engiine model needed before ordering new cables?

Thanks,

Was down at the boat and tested the throttle and shift, it looks like the problem was related to the idle being set too high. I dropped the idle speed to about 900 (not sure if the tach is accurate) and it seems to be shifting OK.

Before when coming out of forward, neutral was difficult to find. Would still like to have any info on ordering cables as there is some slop in these.

An outboard, at least a Merc, will shift very hard coming out of forward if the throttle cable is adjected to tightly against the linkage. It is correct when you can pull a piece of paper out with only a slight resistance, and without tearing it.

For new cables I STRONGLY recommend the new Teleflex premium "XTREME" line. These are the smoothest operating you can buy, and well worth a couple of extra dollars. For Merc's and OMC's, engine specific cables are available, or you can buy the universal style and use the engine specific end kits.
