I always found it odd that BW didn't provide a way to lock the RPS in the forward position so it could be used as a temporary leaning post. I sometimes use it that way but it flip backward at the slightest bump.

I was looking for a way to lock it in the forward position that can be fully removeable and that didn't involve any drilling in the original parts. Here's what I've done:

I bought a hinged 7/8" I.D. rail fitting and a spring-loaded 1/4" safety pin then I found a few inches of some scrap aluminum flat bar (1 3/16" x 1/4"), all for under $20.

Because the fitting is meant to be used with a screw, you need to drill the tapered side with a 1/4" drill bit.

I then position the fitting on the front RPS rail, when flipped forward, so the holes fit just under the rectangular starboard (or wood) piece, by inserting the pin through the holes

I removed one of the RPS lower bolts and drilled a 1/4" hole at the end of the flat bar, inserted it through the bolt then measured to cut it at the right lenght and drilled the second hole through the ones of the fitting. The flat bar rest behind the fitting and, when you insert the pin, it goes through the fitting, then the bar and under the RPS piece

When returning to the normal backward position, it does not bind or scratch anything and the pin can be inserted in the fitting

I've tested it in running conditions and found it strong enough only on one side that I didn't need one for the other side.
